Child friendly way of preventing slugs

What's the best way to keep slugs away when there's small children about? I've got very young grandchildren who are just about walking and trying to eat everything in sight. I've been using pellets for years but I need a method that isn't going to be hazardous to kids.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Well, you can go out and hand pick the slugs. If you are adept with chopsticks, the round bamboo pointed kind works the best. (Find restaurants that use them for Chinese takeout and learn a new skill if you are not :D ). ...I drop them in a container of soapy water.

This needs to be done very early in the morning just before or around sunrise or in the evening twilight, or even by flashlight in the dark. It can be done with a child monitor clipped to your belt while the kids are sleeping or while there is a helper watching the kids. If you can get over the creepies, it can actually be stress releaving and therapeutic

There are several slug hunt threads here with various degrees of ( :P ) absurdity and violent slugicidal tendencies exhibited by our fellow gardener's.
