Strange insect eggs on my container soil

Can someone be so kind to explain the alien invasion on my garden soil?
I have some containers on my patio and this morning I found a zillion I would say eggs on the container soil. I have cucumbers in that box, the plants are tiny, ~4 inches tall.
I am attaching a picture of the "eggs".
Thank you!

Especially with the wood chips -- mulch? -- I would say these are a kind of fungus that help break down dead wood and organic matter (like tiny mushrooms). Nothing to worry about. They may even disappear by tomorrow.
