Help identifying this disease on pine trees

Hello

I just noticed tiny white dots all over my pine trees. Some of them are completely covered, and some are half covered.

Is this some disease? If so, any way to treat it?
Should I be concerned?

I'm not sure if it helps, but I live in Boston, MA.

that's hemlock, not pine, and the white stuff is pretty much textbook wooly adelgid. it's a big problem in my area, and I'm not sure there is a control for an infestation once it's at that stage.

oh I have this problem too. I don't really know how to get rid of it as well. but once the neighborhood grass cutter saw one of my potted plants with this and he said try to cut out the branches that has it and throw it away because apparently these lil things can fly from one plant to another.

so now when I see them I usually just use a tissue and clean them off as they come off easily or should I say squished and dead. =) and so far it has helped. my garden is free of those white stuff.

Thanks! From what I've read about wooly adelgid (thanks potatoes!), if it is a small infestation, you can isolate the plants. For my situation, I've applied a coat of insecticidal soap on it this week. This is a good website with information of what you can do in your home ([url=https://www.saveourhemlocks.org/controls/my_prop.shtml]SaveOurHemlocks[/url])

They recommend doing it late March through April, and then from late August through October when they are more vulnerable.

Hopefully I'll get rid of them, because now I feel like a big farm of wooly adelgid
