Earwigs?

Now are they or are they not a veggie garden pest? My Western garden book says that they are harmless pests but I think they just ate up a whole bunch of my Swiss Chard. There seem to be tons of them and am wondering if and how I should get rid of these before putting in new plants.

Thanks

I was just about to post a topic on earwigs. I have a problem with them too, not a veggie garden though. I hope someone has a good response! They're everywhere!!

I am not overly fond of earwigs, but according to this article from the University of California at Davis, they are neither all good, nor all bad. The introduced European earwig does do some damage to plants, but it also preys heavily on pests such as aphids.

I wish they would make them without the pincers.
