Does my jade plant have root rot?

I am new to being a plant owner, the rootball around my jade plant seemed to be the only part staying moist and not drying out, I wanted to replant it into better draining
soil but am worried that it has root rot, I am trying to let the soil dry so I can clean the roots before repotting. The roots feel woody, not soft and mushy but they seem to be light brown and not white. could they be stained from the soil or does it look
like root rot? any help is appreciated!
