need help with cutting

IMG_3904.JPG
my first post, retired in Bay St Louis, MS (boating community). I have attached two photo's of (I think) a euphorbia flanaganii (medusa head). The plant is about 6 months old, I am seeking advise on what I should do with the unusual growth. I would like to attempt to start it in a new pot, but not sure how, or when, would be a good time. Any suggestions would help.

I would try and dig around the growth with a small spoon to get some roots and then pull it out. If you can't get any roots, you can always cut the growth at the soil line, let it dry for a day or two and then stick it in some cactus mix to root. I have a set of extra long tweezers that I use for these types of "operations". Good Luck!
