Strange discoloration on 7 year old cactus

For the last four years I've noticed this discoloration on my 7 year old cactus. I started this baby from seed and I cant recall the species so if someone knows what species it is that would be a plus but my main goal is to find a diagnosis for the discoloration. My main concerns are: Is it deadly to the cactus? Is it curable? If it is curable what can I do to fix the problem and what can I do to prevent it in the future. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.
