Can I save my cactus? :(

Hi everyone!
Last year, my boyfriend bought this huge cactus for my birthday. As I live in Western Europe, I've put it in the spot in my house that has the most light and where it's always warm. I don't water it a lot, and it's always been doing pretty good, but the other day when I turned it (I do that sometimes to avoid having always the light coming on the same side), I noticed there were huge black 'stains' on the extremities, and that the base was full of white mold/fungus/?

See pictures I've attached.

I have no idea what it is but it seems to have spread enough to threaten my cactus' well-being and since I noticed it for the first time a few days ago, it seems to have visibly spread even more.

Does anyone know what I can do? Is there anything to do at all? I would be very sad to give up on it, it's so big and it was such a nice gift...

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi Nadia,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a cactus expert. Much too wet in my part of the world. Does the discoloration wipe off? Do the stems (for lack of a better word) feel firm or are they soft or mushy?

There are cactus connoisseurs in the forum. Hopefully one of them will see your post and be able to give you advice.

Hi Elizabeth! Thank you for replying so quickly.
The stems are firm, although the white thing feels moist. The discolouration doesn't seem to wipe off, and it doesn't leave a trace on my finger when I touch it.

I hope the specialists can help further :)

Update: this is what the black parts look like now...
