Snapping cuttings vs. Cutting them

I believe my plant is dead, so I'm am going to try and save it through regeneration of its healthy leaves.

I snapped off each branch at a natural breaking point.

Is this the best way to generate new roots, or should I make a clean cut before allowing it to callus??

Is there a difference?

It depends, when you snap a branch it still must be healthy and thick enough to have enough nutrients to supply the plant before it can make its own roots.
Heeled cuttings are made by taking a branch off the mainstem with a heel. It works for some of the semiripe and ripe cuttings of certain types of plants.

Cutting need to be about 4-6 inches long or contain at least 2 nodes. Some quick to root plants can go with one node and some succulents especially will grow from leaf cuttings.
You have to propagate some plants at the right time of the year or the mortality rate gets close to 100%
You are in the cactus and succulent forum. Cactus and succulents need to be dried to callus them off before they can be planted.

Cutting is often better than breaking because sometimes if you pull a leaf off you don't get all of it and part is left on the mother plant. Also it can damage the leaf/stem you are going to re plant. Generally a clean cut is better (with a sterilised blade) unless you can guarantee a sterile break/pull
