Saving my succulent!

I think it's a jade tree, or something that resembles it..
There was a secondary shoot, about half the size of the tree that died. This is when I realized I must've over watered him:(
I removed the soil, and am letting what is left of the roots dry out.. can I replant him like this? Or do I have to take cuttings and start from the beginning?
And if so, how do I propigate from cuttings?
Thank you all for your imput

If you do not see any rot (just smell it :D ), you can plant it as is. It will be fine. If there is rot, just cut it off, leave the cutting in dry dark place for a week and then just put it in soil. After I plant succulents, I usually wait a week before I water them, it seems to work for me.
