I'm new here, this is my first post

This cactus I got for my grandmother a few years ago as a gift. The other week she told me to take it home as she is having a hard time taking care of her plants now that she has limited mobility. When she asked me how it was doing and I told her about it being droopy, she told me that my aunt has been trying to help her with the plants, but she was pretty sure my aunt has been over watering all of her plants! So I think that may be the cause of this guys heaviness.
2 days ago I remixed half and half cactus soil and dry sand and repotted. I definitely noticed how wet it's roots were. I didn't realize until I dug it up because the top of the soil was so dry.
I'm concerned repotting it at it's current shape would shock it, but I think drying this guy out is more important. If this looks like an overwater droopy cactus, should I just let it be in the sun? This cactus means more to me now than it ever did since my gram cared for it so much when she was able to and I want to bring her back one of its babies once it's healthier for her to continue to take care of.
I actually think it looks a little bit better today, but my boyfriend said I need to give it more time. Any advice for this cactus would be helpful!
THANKS EVERYONE
