advice on growing compact sedums

I'm ordering a sedum clavatum online and I would like advice before I get it. I want to grow this one really compact, like this: https://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/ ... 113d66.jpg
rather than one that's flatter and more spread out like this: https://sherwoodgreenhouses.squarespace. ... 6634719096
Does anyone have any advice?

Did you mix up the pictures? to my eye, the first picture looks flatter and more spread out than the second.

Anyway, I would think part of it is just the container. Given more room to spread out, they will.

I think adequate bright light is key to growing sedums to their full compact potential.
The first picture looks to me like new bumpy growth while the 2nd picture shows the mature leaves as well as new growths.
