Hibotan, or Moon Cactus growing pups : How to take them off?

One pup is about 5 inches long already. How do I remove it and plant it?

If the pups are from the top section, and are not green, they must be grafted onto a base stalk. That's how my moon cactus pups. If it's an actual "green" pup from the ground, and it's 5", I would think you could give it it's own pot this spring. Just don't plant it in too big of a pot, and make sure your soil mix has great drainage. Again, a picture of the pup and situation would help.

Well, it is growing from the side of the cactus and is green. There are more pups, and one pup is growing its own pups.

all you do is pull the pup off the side of the mother plant, and let is sit in a shady spot for atleast a week so that the wound calouses over, this will prevent it from rotting, if you want you can put rooting hormone on the wound of the pup, but this must be done right away when you pull it from the mother, then you take the pup and place it on dry fine sand, in a few weeks check it and there will be roots, but do not water it until there are roots because it will rot if you do
