What's next with aloe plant?

This plant turned brown on me. My other aloe are fine, but this one had a bad root system. I took off the brown dead roots, and this is what I have. Not much of a root system. There are some healthy roots on there though. The plant is air drying and callousing now. What should I do next. Also, how long should I let it dry before I plant it? THANKS! Here's pics:

Hmmm ... I probably wouldn't have callused it since there are apparently healthy roots present, even though they are small ones. Callusing is usually done when there is a freshly cut end. The cut end will allow bacteria from the soil to infect the plant, often leading to rot in the stem.

I think you should go ahead and plant your aloe. Plant it in dry soil, which encourages the roots to grow and seek water. Water it thoroughly after 2 or 3 weeks, then allow the soil to dry somewhat before watering again. Let it get dry down to about an inch below the surface, then water thoroughly again.

When I "calloused" it, I just scraped of dead bits, and brown. Maybe I shouldn't have been so aggressive with the trunk. I think the rot may have been invading the trunk. I think it will be fine. We'll see

It made it, and is doing great. I've learned so much in the last few years. Thanks guys. Yes, it's the same plant, and it's already given me two pups. This aloe is somewhat special to me as it's the first plant I bought after moving in with my girlfriend. I'm glad to still have it around. Here's a pic of one of the pups:
