I need help diagnosing my Trichocereus bridgesii's problem

I had noticed a weird/ominous looking crack that kept looking worse on the skin of my cactus. I cut off the problem area, but now the lower part is start to look bad as well. Below are some pictures I took after it looked like he was getting worse. I wonder if there is anything I can do to save my cute little cactus. All help is GREATLY appreciated.

Looks like you have been overwatering it. Those brown spots are rot. You might try cutting out the rot and replant it. Might work. :?: Good luck with it.

thanks for the tip, I un-potted it, and it seems like the drainage was not working right, as I have not watered it in about 2-3 weeks, and the soil was still quite moist/wet.

I have it sitting on a table in the breezeway, letting the roots dry out, and am going to cut off the affected areas tomorrow.

I really appreciate the help.
