Identify my tree please!

This little tree was given to me as a gift, but I don't know what type of tree it is? I want to investigate info to learn what types of cares it needs?

Location: Hawaii, zone 12a 587 ft elev.

The leaves look like an arborvitae.
Maybe this will help. The shaping and training should be similar. BTW bonsai usually do not twist trunks. It is o.k. for potted trees but the fused twisted trunks actually shortens the life of the tree in the long run and bonsai if taken care of should last for generations. Splitting trunks is o.k. and more natural. Nature does not braid trunks and bonsai pays homage to nature.
