Please, ID my tree

Hello,
I'm new around here :)
I've revived a new tree from my fiance as a gift, and I don't know what species it is, or if it even is a bonsai.
Please can you help with an id? :)

Interesting. It is not one of the more common bonsai types. It is possibly an olive tree, but that's kind of a guess, so hopefully someone will come by who knows more than I do.

It is a bonsai, because it has been treated as a bonsai - bonsai is not any particular tree type. It describes the art of maintaining any tree (or woody shrub) in miniature form in a small pot. If it is an olive, planted in the ground in good conditions, it would grow to be 25 - 50 ft tall. Kept root pruned in the tiny pot, it will never get much bigger than it is.

Do some reading about general bonsai care. Here's some articles about bonsai care:

and here's the bonsai forum learning library: https://www.helpfulgardener.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=36

best wishes!

I am going to second RBG's ID of olea europa--olive. With a possible second of shepherdia argentea, buffalo berry.

Both have been trained as bonsai. In very small numbers. Not commonly done.
