Interesting! I don't know, not one of the more common bonsai types.

Can't you go back where you got it and ask? Did they give you any other info about it, like is it tropical, cold hardy, can be indoors or not, etc?

it always helps to tell us where you are located. There are hardly any garden questions that can be discussed without regard to location/ climate.

not too helpful.... I looked on-line at Lowes bonsais and they just had them listed as 1 qt bonsai, 1.5 gallon bonsai, etc., no other information about the tree. Terrible way to sell/ buy trees. Pretty well guaranteed to die that way, since you have no idea what care it needs.

Temperate climate trees need to stay outdoors and die if kept indoors. Tropicals often can stay indoors for the winter, although most trees do better with some "vacation" outdoors in appropriate seasons and with the right conditions -- e.g. you certainly wouldn't want to put anything that isn't truly desert adapted in full summer Las Vegas sun, but many things might be fine outdoors with just a bit of morning sun. Many of the things that look a little bit like your tree (I.e. Brazilian raintree and Chinese peppertree) are tropicals. So until someone who can tell us more comes a long time, we will take a wild guess and say it is probably tropical.
