Hello!
I got a bonsai as a gift and I've had it for about 2-3 months. Until 2 weeks ago the bonsai was feeling healthy and glad but now atleast 50% of the leaves are kinda dead and it definetly needs pruning.
Can someone help me identify this tree and perhaps give me some pointers to how to prune this tree.
It's and outdoor no direct sunlight bonsai that's been living indoors.
I haven't removed all the "dead" leaves yet since they were so many and I was afraid the tree might become bare if I do this incorrectly.

It could be the podocarpus although in some pictures it doesn't look much like it and in some it's quite close.

First picture of the big tree the trunk looks close...in the picture you showed and other on the link above it looks like a different one.
My tree has a trunk close to a swedish pine which would make sence if this is also a pine tree.
To answer your questions.
Yes it has a hole in the bottom...in the middle, think it's like 3-4 cm in diameter. It's been living indoors mostly cause swedish summer is a lot of rain and it sais on the note that came with it that it doesn't like direct sunlight. The other factor is that for the 9 non-summer months it could and sooner or later will get quite cold (-20 ...°C)...and I have a feeling that's not it's prefered outdoor temperature. Although the snow will keep the soil wet so atleast it would never dry out. =o)
And yeah...the weed...is it weed, those string leaves...they look kinda nice. Thought they were supposed to be there for decoration.
