Please help me identify my bonsai

Wed Jan 11, 2012 11:36 am

I bought a pack of bonsai seeds and grew them last year Jan 2011. I managed to get 2 seedlings to survive the first year (I have a toddler!!!).

This photo is what remains of my survivors, I want to identify them so I can learn more about their care.

I have read lots about group planting and 's' curves but I think I want to find out what I have and then decide what to do.

Any ideas? I think evergreen maybe spruce because the leaves are spikey but I really haven't a clue.
Thank you, Ann

These are the seeds I used:

And I am hoping that this picture will fit nicely, as this is the kind of thing I would like to end up with:

But I am worried that if it isn't a spruce, it will look silly or wont work and its a long haul process for me to be upset after 20-yrs!

I wish I knew what seedling you have there. Looks like some kind of cypress. As with all conifers, they do in fact do their best outdoors. I wouldn't place it out in the cold dead of winter right now. Maybe spring and so forth to get it used to outside weather.

A tree that you have grown from the seed, styled, and trained to become a bonsai would never be upsetting. :) You should be proud of it, whether it be a spruce or not. 8)
