Bark appears to be that of a ficus, but the leaves say otherwise. Not sure, but I'll look into it.

I believe you have a ficus microcarpa or Tiger-bark fig. Since it is 'native' to your part of the world it should be grown outdoors. We should only grow bonsai indoors if the plant is a native of a far different environment (much warmer) and we must protect it with additional warmth (plus light and humidity) during a cold season.

Learn all you can about ficus - how it thrives in the jungles of South East Asia. It is all over the internet. Soil and fertilizer requirements may be a bit different in Singapore than in the US. They can live a very long time if kept healthy.

Your tree may do better if given fresh bonsai soil and pruned back.

Hope this helps.

I don't think it's a fig because fig leaves are always opposite-alternate, not opposite.

This tree is truly befuddling.

I agree with bonsiaboy it doesn't look like a ficus. the styling says chinese elm but the leaves arent right from what I know of them... maybe its an elm ficus hybrid :> a felmcus tree

The bark looks like a microcarpa but the leaves r definitely not. I'm not sure what it is.
