what kind of bonsai is this?

I've always admired bonsai trees but never had the pleasure of owning one. Knowing this, my brother decided to get me one as a gift. The thing is that I don't know what kind it is. It started off really well but now it seems dehydrated. I've followed the watering instructions but they don't state if this is an indoor or outdoor tree. I don't even know if I should use fertilizer and if so, can anyone recommend a kind or a brand? I've had it for about three weeks. Here are two pictures of when I first recieved it and how it looks now. I'm really bummed out because I'm afraid that she may be dying. Please help :( Thank you in advance for your advice and responses.

It's a Juniper. Likely "Juniper Procumbens nana" in my opinion. It is strictly an outdoor tree - also my opinion. First step is to put it outside. Second is to make sure there is not a glued layer of rocks under that moss that will make it so no water gets to the tree (occasionally those trees have rocks glued in place so they do not fall off in shipping. I doubt it's dead yet. Junipers are fairly forgiving if you keep them outside. I would not bother fertilizing just yet. It will not die from lack of fertilizer very quickly.
