maple seedling...but which one??

I grew these maples from seed and was told that they were trident maples. The seeds had the little wing thing on it that Japanese and trident maples have, I don't know what that's called. my only concern is that these leaves have 5 points on them rather than the three that trident maples have. Is this normal for trident maple seedlings or might I have another type of maple?

Too soon to tell, it looks like a Japanese species.

Looks like a Japanese Maple..........not a Trident. Tridents have 3 lobes...yours have 5.

Where did you get the seed? off the ground? if so, look around the area for similar maple. there are quite a few maple species.

I'm growing a Bonsai forest of sugar maple from seed, they're just on their second year. 14 trees. here there are covered in snow. and the tray I will transfer them to.

There are japanese maples in the next yard and I have thrown lots of japanese maple seeds outside in my backyard. What happened was I cold stratified trident maple seeds and it looked like they were getting mold on them so I threw them outside in the soil to see if they would sprout up this spring, and about two weeks later these sprouted. It could be japanese maple seeds from two seasons ago that just happened to sprout now because of the double stratification process. I guess I was just disappointed because I wanted trident seedlings and knew the second they grew their leaves that they weren't. I forgot to mention I brought in the seeds when they first sprouted and put them in my indoor grow area, hence the picture. Thanks for your help guys, I guess I'm going to continue on with these palmatums for now.

A question for you, those sugar maples don't die with snow on them??

sugar maple's won't, and as afar as I know, most maples of any kind can take pretty low temps.
