Alfalfa in compost

I am starting my compost bin. It will be in a bottom cut off garbage can with holes in it. I have some leaves and moldy alfalfa. I have access to a lot of old hay. Is that okay to use in the compost bin?

Hay and Alfalfa are green and most leaves are brown. I would mix them together not layered.

I would run through the leaves and hay with the lawn mower and add kitchen scraps and a couple shovelsfull of dirt.
