Old decorative grass - OK as a mulch?

My neighbor gave me a ton of dead decorative grass that he cut down. Is there any problem with cutting it up and using as a mulch? Would I be giving my garden too much of any particular chemical? I just have so much of the stuff that I need to do something with it. It seems to break down VERY slowly.

Are there a lot of seed heads on it? If so you'll have to watch out for sprouts everywhere. Other than that, it should make a fine mulch.

I guess I'm going to echo Tox. Clip off seed heads and feed them to chickens or compost them. Stalks can be used as mulch.
