I'm not even sure this goes here.. humus manure soil...

ive been having issues with my cat palm.. tonight I went to walmart with my mother and bought a bigger (14") plastic pot with attached water tray and my mother bought a bag of humus manure soil...

I took my cat palm out of its 12 inch pot which wasnt deep enough I thought. (I'm wondering if maybe the pot wasnt big enough hence my brown leaf tips) anyway so I used what dirt was in the pot already a standard well draining plant soil for the sides and some of the top..

I then added some dark heavy black dirt and the humus manure soil on top...

I'm afraid the top soil will be too dense for water to get to the better draining soil..

oh plus I put rocks at the bottom for drainage..

did I make a mistake??? should I use regular plant soil or will I be ok given that the denser soil is all on top and maybe will hold in moisture better so I don't have to water often...

thank you

ps I have de-bugged spanish moss on top of the soil...
