Where do I start?!!?

I am a brand new gardener, brand spanking. I have a big backyard with an established fruit gardnenc, hook shed and big patch for veggies. However I'm not sure where to put my compost bin, what to put in it and how to make it.

I know air must get in, so a wire frame could do the trick.

There are heaps of dead leaves under tress around the yard, and we spent 4hrs wedding and have a massive pile. Can I put all these weeds and lawn clippings in? O

There is a spot next to the chook shed, but it would be leaning right up against it. I was thinking of putting 4 fence pegs in the ground, and wrapping it wire around it. I can post a pic if this will help.

Everything is so well landscaped I'm just not sure where to start. I want to start small.

I just dug some dirt up and am buying manure this arvo so I can put my Winter crop in

Hey Tom,

A full sun spot is best for starters, not too far from the rest of the garden but out of sight from it as much as possible, right? Near enough to water (although I tend to use my cans a lot for my piles), easy to access with a wheel barrow and for turning...

What you have on hand sounds like good starters; greens (weeds) and browns (leaves). Kitchen scraps make all the difference for me; I'd recommend it.

And do some reading and searching on the topic here. There is lots to learn...

Cheers, digging around today I still can't make up my mind. I have a massive pile of festering goodness waiting to be appropriately stored.

I thought vegetable scraps were composted differently to general garden rubbish?

No meat, no dairy, but otherwise have at it!

As the old Monty Python skit says, it all goes to the same place...
