Fruit/Vegetable Scraps
I hear that Fruit and Vegetable Scraps have a 25:1 C/R ratio. Could I have a separate compost pile just for this organic material?

yes u can make a wormry, they will eat all the kitchen scraps and will leave u with worm castings which are great for your garden and also will give u free luqid feed for u to mix with water at a 10% worm poo to 90% water which will make your garden grow like crazy! well this is what I have read, I am still in the same boat as u, just collecting things to make it.
if u feel this is the way u wana go, read this.

Josh is right that this works well for feeding to worms in a vermicomposting system. Type worm composting into the Search the Forum and you will find lots of info about it. Otherwise for a regular compost pile, the fruit and veggie scraps work better when balanced with more carbonaceous stuff, fall leaves, sawdust etc. Otherwise you tend to get a slimy mess that will attract tons of insects and vermin.
The C/N (carbon to nitrogen) ratio varies pretty widely depending on what scraps you are talking about. Here's a listing of some typical ratios"
