Making compost in the home for indoor use

Is it possible to make compost in your home, with the intent of using it for indoor plants, without attracting gnats, fruit flies and other insects? I don't want these pests in my home. I used to make manure based compost for outdoor plants, which would obviously not be used indoors, but I imagine the smell can get somewhat unpleasant at times with all the rotting banana peels, used coffee grinds and decomposing vegetables.

I know you're going to say add more browns if flies become a problem or to cover the top of the compost bin with grass and leaves. But there's no true way to avoid pests and rotting smells altogether is there?

What are some alternatives that will provide equal success for fertilizing indoor fruits and vegetables if I didn't want to use compost?

If you want to do indoor composting, get yourself a worm box.

But type vermicomposting into the search box at upper left of most pages and you will find lots more information.

The earth worms eat up your kitchen scraps and turn them into super rich earthworm castings. It's all done indoors in a little box, with no smell and the worm castings would be a good amendment for containers, finer textured than compost.

The other alternative for indoor composting would be a compost tumbler. On this thread https://www.helpfulgardener.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18518 Kisal posted pictures of a few small sized compost tumblers which could be kept indoors, one even motorized.

Thanks a bunch! I'll keep this in mind.
