Colloidal Clay?

When someone suggests to add "colloidal clay" to the compost, what exactly are they talking about? Is it the same as "Bentonite"?
I've search for a while on the net, but nothing in concrete. Is it something I can buy or does it come from my Virginia's finest RED CLAY soil?
