I'm having a mosquito problem, and I've come to the conclusion it's from my new compot piles. The Heat has left everything so dry, and I mean dry, so the mosquitos have dissapeared from around my house. But, now that I made a new compost pile, the mosquitos are coming back. Right now, they're just by the compost pile, but soon they'll start coming to the house again. How can I stop this? Can I add anything to the compost to get rid of them. I'll take a picture of the compost in a little bit and post it later

I really don't think your mosquitoes should be attracted to your compost pile, there is nothing there for them unless you have standing water nearby?

Anyway, lemon balm and garlic and two good organic ways you can repel mosquitoes. Just add to the top of your compost . You can also plant/spray around your house to keep them away, we're planning a full lemon balm border for next year!

a0c8c, Mosquitoes don't come from your compost pile. They have to come from standing water. So unless you actually have standing water in the compost pile they can't breed there and create more mosquitoes. BUT some say that the heat and the composting process may attract them to the area but that usually only while turning is done does you compost pile release and heat or gasses that may attract them.

hmm... not sure where they came from, but they're definately attracted to the compost. Only part of my yard with mosquitos. I'll throw some garlic and lemon in there and hope the fly away.

If you can get your hands on lemon grass, you can add that to your compost..also basil when flowered is also said to help deter squitoes.Try adding some of flowers to the pile or if you got one in a container, place it near the compost. Neem works and peppermint, and cat nip as well. Many use the oils and rub them on ther skin, I'm thinking you can just add them to the pile. Neem oil is also sold in garden stores, it works for many pest problems.
Also are you 100% sure ther squitoes, I some times mistake funus gnat as mosquitoes.

That might explain my lack of mosquitoes in the past weeks. My basil was flowering. Boy does that smell good and the bees really love it. You can just hear the basil buzzing.

They're definately moaquitos, they come straight at you and start sucking your blood. Mayeb I'll plant my herbs around the compost pile from now on, since we're gonna have basil, lemobalm, catnip, and any more which ya'll listed as mosquito repellers
