Ants in compost

after a few months I finally turned my compost and was so pleased to find dry, crumbly warm material at the bottom- until I stirred it up and there were tons of black ants, grasshoppers, and ant larvae. I have an ant problem in my yard so I'm wondering if my yard waste contributed to it.

What do I do?

Maybe some suggestions in that thread will help your situation.

Also see my post "things ants don't like" in this thread:

and try searching ant control in the search box at upper left of most pages

thanks, these ideas are helpful. I don't want to ditch my compost so I'll try to kill the ants with boiling water and then sprinkle powder around my compost bin and cinamon around and in it.

Great, keep us posted on the outcome... that's how we all keep learning, if folks let us know what actually works for them. Good luck!
