Fire Ants

My compost pile has been finished for about a week, good stuff in there. Yesterday, I went to use some compost in the garden, and the first fork full turned up hundreds of fire ants and their eggs. The pile is about 6'x3' and the ants were only in a small area of the pile. Is there any way to get rid of the ants without destroying the worms in there, too? Thanks.

I learned a useful tip here that helped me. Sprinkle cinnamon on and around the ants. I haven't had any since. I bought a large, cheap shaker bottle of cinnamon and keep it handy. Hope this helps! :D

I wonder if the cinnamon will work with other kinds of ants.
