Leonard Cohen is my comfort music! RIP the Canadian legend!

Much as I love Leonard Cohen, comfort isn’t a word that springs to mind. Inspiring, moving (depressing?) and maybe romantic?
It’s interesting though how he divides opinion. People mostly either love him or hate him.
I couldn’t cope with his novels though. A kind of clever but haunting madness is how I experienced them.

Tenebrae has experienced devastating loss of income during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you enjoyed this film, please consider renting the whole concert through our online shop, helping us to continue to provide work for our freelance musicians: https://www.tenebrae-choir.com/films

Am I imagining it or is that congregation of upperclass (or would be upperclass?) twits horrified at having negro boogie woogie music performed at a Royal wedding? One of many suprises the happy couple had in store for the stiff-upper-lip brigade. Bless them both !

Strange thing is they didn’t have ‘mind altering’ substances back then.

Fun when you’re dancing it but it bought tears to my eyes. I lived in Melbourne which has the largest concentration of Greeks in any city outside of Athens. I’m now living in Tasmania, all so boringly Anglo Saxon it gives me the ShXts! Thanks for the memories anyhow.

I know nature sounds aren't exactly music, but does anyone else find it comforting? Right now I'm listening to 'crackling fire'; I really enjoy nature sounds for a white noise while I do housework, etc.

Totally agree, I once had a house built beside a creek running 12 months of the year. Did that ever make housework and gardening a joy. The only disadvantage was the platypi (what is the correct plural of platypus?) would sometimes wander up to my fish pond, eat the enhabitants and stir up the mud.
For me the musical equivalent is Gregorian chant. ( I manage somehow to ignore what the text is preaching)

YES this was a popular song when I was in college 1970. The date seem long ago but it seems like it was only a few years ago. The past 52 years went by quick. I remember this video on TV 50 yrs ago. We use to listen to the stereo and watch TV with the sound off. My college room mates had lots of music but a good stereo with a good antenna picked up Wolf Man Jack from Chicago after 10 pm. Those days are very good memories.

Yes, powerful memories indeed but today denial drugs had a positive ( & sometimes negative) influence on music and the arts during that era is attempting to re-write history. A basic, honest analysis of the lryics of so many of these songs still gives the game away - - despite the Beetles absurd pretence Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds wasn’t a reference to L.S.D..
