TV SUCKS

TV is full of cop shows. murder, murder, murder and crimes of all kinds. Crime, crime, crime. I am sick of it. On almost every channel. I like PBS lots of good programs. I decided to start watching old westerns I did not remember they are all crime too and worse than cop shows. There were no laws in the old west it was kill or be killed. I have not had cable TV in 25 years and don't miss it. TV is as bad as the computer it wastes my life away. The older I get the worse I feel today I felt bad all day & computer gives me something to do. I like true stores there are lots of true stories on YouTube and free movies. Live Leak is like YouTube.

Who remembers the song, Hurty Gurty man. Today I learned what the Hurty Gurty man is. In the late 1800s & early 1900s street people played music to make money. Hurty Gurty is a musical instrument it originated in France for church music before the organ was invented..

Keep an open mind and you might be surprised at what you can find.

I'm Sorry is a comedy about modern parenting. One episode the mom is enthused about the cool and hip lesbian moms who are new to their kids preschool. But when she goes on a play date with them she's horrified at what jerks they are.

In another episode her daughter expresses seemingly racist sentiments about a classmate, which of course shocks her parents.

There's quite a bit of frank banter about bedroom related themes as well, but in a comedic tone.

Future Man is a comedy about a guy who is supposed to be The Chosen One, The Savior but he is actually a coward. He also tries to stop the warriors from the future from killing people and tries to find an alternative solution that doesn't involve killing. VERY funny!

The Get Down is a drama about NYC teens in the 1970's who are metaphorically guiding their ships off the dock and pushing toward the futures they imagine for themselves, buffeted by events beyond their control like ships in a storm, parents, expectations for school and so on. One character dies but others push past the ups and downs of life and push on.

The Good Place is a three season sitcom with a beginning and an end that is about the afterlife. Everyone is already dead. :D

There's a lot on television that isn't about murder. Just keep an open mind and allow yourself to be surprised.

It may be age. Or, maybe The Age. Those themes seem very strange, Webmaster.

I watch very little teevee beyond a little news. I have to use captioning because of my hearing loss. Situation Comedy requires a quickness to comprehend - how does that work with reading the captions? Where are the Stand-up Comedians? (Recently, I found "Stories from the Stage" on PBS. There we go!)

But, themes on mothers who are cool, hip jerks? Daughters with racists sentiments? More likely, parents with racist sentiments. More likely, grandparents.

A chosen one who is a coward? Funny alternatives to killing?

Teenagers on adventures where one dies?

A show cast after everyone is dead?

I'm going out to the garden. I'm sure that there is entertainment and uplifting entertainment available on everyone's set and I don't intend to crawl off into a 1960's hole. Nope. That sure ain't for me, either. I'm fortunate that even if my "children" are becoming a little anxious about aging that they still represent a fresh look at life for this olde fella. I enjoy visiting the library and will feel a sense of liberation when those open again. I have lived the last 25 years close to an elementary school, cannot interact much with those kids but know that I will experience a special joy when the neighborhood and the playground fills with children, again.

checking PBS schedule for "The Odd Squad" ...

I'm with ya, @Gary! TV is full of garbage. Dirty shows and movies, people using horrible language..... BLEAH! That's why I hardly EVER watch TV, I have all my favorite shows on DVD that I can watch whever. Rawhide is my favorite western, even though Rowdy makes me mad, he's such a jerk.

All the fake dating or getting married shows are nearly pornographic and on at such an early hour. Used to be the graphic sex stuff had to wait until later in the evening. The dancing, singing acting shows are really getting old and worn out. Must be cheap to produce. I even saw that Survivor is still on. I thought it was dead years ago. Even public TV is getting hard to watch with its politically motivated programming. We seem to spend time watching British programming on our streaming service even though they are several years old. US mainstream TV does in fact suck.

I use to watch foreign programs when I had Ruku3 they have real true life programs. There was a category of all true stores it was all I ever watched. True store called, FENCE is very good. DUMA is very good too. Cable TV has no true store category it is all junk, teenager stuff, blood & guts, fighting movies, & more junk. Comedies are all fake producers dub in crowds of people laughing at things that are not funny at all to try and make people watching laugh too. It is good I don't have the true TV shows anymore I would be watching too much TV. Days are getting longer I would rather be outside watching & listening to squirrels & birds and the cats & dog, wind blowing threw the tree leaves, moon & stars at night. I have been trying to watch, World on Fire it is on NPT, I hate movies that have about 10 different stories going on at the same time the movie keeps jumping from place to place you have to pay very close attention and have a very good memory to keep up with 10 different stories. I watched all the Sherlock Holmes videos from the 1950s and 1980s the new young kid that plays in the new Sherlock Holmes videos is not a good actor and too young to be a Sherlock Holmes. The teenage kid on TV that pretends to be a real doctor is stupid & not realistic. I miss the true stores on Ruku3 the thing I don't like if you decide not to watch TV for 6 month in summer you still have to pay for it once your signed up they take money from your credit card like it or not. The last time I signed up for anything I bought a 1 time credit card, I put enough money on the card to watch TV until end of April. May to Dec I don't want to see TV I want to be outside. The company could not take money from a card that has no money. Dec when I wanted to watch TV again the company wanted payment for 6 months of TV I never watch so I told them where to stick it. Wife decided she wants cable TV in winter she needs something to do so I tell her buy a pay as you go credit card so she did and was glad she did. Special offer was $55 a month first month was fine but second month bill was $120. She was on the phone for 4 whole hours trying to get the problem fixed and finally did. Next month same problem bill was $135 she was on the phone 2 different time total of 7 hours. Next month she put no money on the card the bill was $130. She did not call them she waited for them to call here. LOL. It only took 2 days for cable TV to call the correct person called problem was fixed in 5 minutes wife did not have to be on HOLD all day on the phone. We think Cable TV makes bill mistakes on purpose how many people will waste their life away on hold to get bill corrected. Every month wife cable TV bill is wrong she has no money credit card cable TV calls her and she does not have to be on hold all day. LOL. My life is much easier not dealing with greedy companies that only care about money.

Ah, Sherlock Holmes! there is no beating Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce! I would never watch any other Sherlock Holmes than than that duo.

As for comedies, I wouldn't watch anything modern either, too dirty. My favorite comedies are the old goodies like I Love Lucy, the Dick Van Dye show and Car 54. There is no beating the good old stuff. Andy Griffith and the Brady Bunch are probably two of the most cleanest shows out there. The only modern movie series I watch now are a Hallmark series called When Calls the Heart, it is set back during the 1910's, even though the characters are seemingly dressed and made up more modern than that. Everybody's either riding a horse or wagon or model T's through town.

I don't have cable, so I don't watch much tv anymore. Now, I basically watch mostly youtube and Chinese dramas and some singing competitions. Those I pick myself. Occasionally, I watch the news or go to the news homepage. I literally would not know if a hurricane was coming unless someone is talking about it. About a week ago, the traffic was backed up for miles. People at work talked about getting stuck and not making it to work in time. They did not seem to know what caused it. A day later the news had a story about the first food distribution at the soccer park and how thousands showed up. That's when I figured out that it was the traffic backing up in the residential streets and three freeway exit ramps that caused the backlog. The soccer park is located on the end of a penninsula and traffic backed up for miles. They have moved the food distribution to the stadium now and allow one car to pick up food for up to three families as long as one person from each family is there with their id and proof of need. The stadium is able to handle more cars within the parking lot.

we hucked our tv over the fence of a construction site in chicago when we left in '03. not the most reasonable way to do it, but we were young and impulsive then. in recent times (especially quarantine) we have been streaming more and more tv shows (with the occasional movie).

I just wish there was a way to see the first few seasons of the great british bake-off...I think we've seen everything available twice.

Idk!!! Personally, over the last 4 years, I’ve grown out of regular tv watching. I recently purchased a roku for my kids because I legit can’t get anything done during the day without parking them in front of the tv at some point... But that roku is great!!!!! I’ve been watching a good bit recently on the weeks that I don’t have my kids, and I’ve been enjoying a few shows. I’ve watched Naked and Afraid on Discovery Go. There are hundreds of episodes, and while I don’t appreciate the drama when teammates are poorly matched, I really really love to watch them work through tough problems. I totally wanna do this show!!!
I also started watching all of the really old Greatest Chefs series! As a child I was in love with these shows, and they still catch my attention!
On Food Network App, they have alllllllllllll the showwwwwwwwws in order.
PBS!!!!! Has everything! I made a $75 donation, and got full access to everything pbs has put out over the last 20+ years, including a ton of the old victory garden shows and much more!

Reality TV is not my jam for sure (excepting Naked and Afraid, which is the best show everrrrrr!). But there’s a lot of that trash on there, too!

Highly suggest a roku!

Actually, commercial t.v. is just that. However, you can make a choice about what and how much you watch. PBS was always a good choice for me for quality programming. I do recommend streaming. You can watch what you want, when you want. There are some new programs available, but I do like the old ones anyway. I did not find so much murder on the few occasions I have been near a t.v.

I have seen more unreality reality shows and game shows, and paid commercials which I am not interested in.
