TomatoNuts Amateur Artwork

During this stressful time, I thought I'd give everybody a laugh and share some of my pathetic artwork. Drawing is something I wish I were better at, and I admit I haven't practiced lately. Not that practicing makes me perfect..... Anyway, go right ahead and laugh at my stuff if you want, I won't be offended 'cause I insult my own artwork.

Nice, that you posted your art work. I think that it is very good. You are being too hard on yourself. Faces are hard and you showed that you can draw faces very well.

Thank-you, but I'm really not good at all. Not near as good as my mother was. My mother loved to draw animals but never did faces and was very very good, whereas I'm terrible at animals and I like faces better. My mother doesn't draw like she used to, and I admit I stopped there for a while. But last night I pulled out my pencils and paper and attempted again. If it's any good, which my artwork never is, I'll post it on the forum, if not I'll post it in the trash can.

One thing about my drawing is that I cannot draw PERIOD unless I have a photo or model to go by. I cannot just picture something or someone in my mind and put it right to paper.

And another thing bad is my shading. I'm terrible at shading. I'll have it too dark over one part or too light on another. I wouldn't shade at all only shading adds depth to ones drawing.

My insult to two wonderful 1940's actors. (It's an insult 'cause my drawing is so bad)

Hope this gives you a good laugh!

This past weekend I did some more terrible artwork. Feel free to laugh, we all need laughter.

Aw c'mon. Those are pretty darn good and you know it. Stop fishing for compliments - but keep on drawing :). Do you only do people, and only headshots? Looks as if you could draw just about anything.

I admit I have a fondness for doing people. I do prefer just head shots. However, I love horses and I tried a kitty once. Also my color picture of an amaryills.

My understanding is that hands are the most difficult to get right.

Have you tried the mirror trick for understanding what might need fixing in a drawing?

Holding an artwork to the mirror helps show parts that can might need fixing, depending on the artwork of course.

Hands are indeed difficult. I prefer just doing close up head shots instead of full length.

Nope, never heard of or tried the mirror trick. I always start off with a very light sketch and compare my sketch with the actual picture of the person with my naked eye before I continue to darken it and shade it in. Sometimes I notice boo boos after I've already shaded in the face. For example, the fancy dressed bearded fellow I had to fix because at first I made his face a little to rounded and fat. I slimmed his face and he came out better.

I know I'm not a good artist, but also the pictures I take of my drawings with my phone makes them not look as good as the actual thing. I have to use the Lomo setting under the camera to show up the drawing darker. But even then, some details and some of the shading of my drawings won't show up on camera.

Long time no post my drawings!

Two recent ones I've gone, trying to expand beyond people. My lion took many layers of hairing and shading.
Today I tried a cartoon character, Bumblebee the Auto-Bot transformer. Bumblebee was done on yellow construction paper, outlined in black charcoal pencil. His face was done with a white charcoal pencil.

One consolation about this new phone is the camera take clearer pictures of my drawings.

Featured here are celebrities, a rabbit and a cartoon.

Thank you very much, but I would say I'm amateur because I still have problems doing some stuff and make enough mistakes to rank being amateur. I'm definitely not professional, there are lots of artists much better than I. There's artists online I follow who's artwork I envy, lol!

A few of my latest creations. Tiger cub, a moon bridge and two Star Trek images. One of which is my very first couple kiss I have drawn.

Here is a drawing I did of a cat. I'm so mad at myself for sticking his back out too far.
