You know it's too hot when....

You know it's too hot in the garden when...

The iPad you left in the sun on the bench refuses to wake up saying "I'm too hot -- I can't work like this.... Put me in a shade so I can cool down....."

 The actual alert message displayed was " :!: This iPad needs to cool down before you can use it" -- it was nearly too hot to hold too.

When it's imperative that you keep a pair of anything for your feet right at the back door, because you can't set foot on the deck without frying your soles.

...when your CAT is panting. Heh. Our cat did this in the summer of '88 after we moved into a new home with no A/C. That was the hottest summer I remember.

When you are out at the crack of dawn to do your outdoor chores and return to the A/C by 8 a.m.
When you either do your grocery shopping late at night or before dawn.
When a Southern Woman doesn't wear make-up during the day because it melts off the minute she steps outside.
When you use ceiling fans 24/7 to augment the A/C.
July in south Louisiana.

You curse your decision to opt for vinyl seats instead of cloth in the new car.

You need to wet your motorcycle seat before sitting down on it if parked outside in the sun.

Cats and dogs are huddled together under a shade tree.

Squash plants are using their huge leaves to fan themselves.

Popcorn shows up in your corn rows.

Tourists from Alaska melt into the sidewalks in July.

People from England gulp glasses of iced sweet tea.

When you are panting and drinking several cups of water just from walking outside.
When my Asian cucumbers wilt and wither.
When even my bird is slightly panting.

When your still sweating after you get out of the cold shower.
When you have to drink a gallon of water and you still have concentrated pee and night cramping
When the plant pots are so hot you get a first degree burn when you try to move them. No wonder the plants are wilting.

...when the water in 'rain barrel' a large Brut plastic trash can is too hot to use for spot watering after noon.

...when you look at alternatives to high temps. It's cooler, so they say, 6 ft down in the ground. I'm skipping that option for now.

Or Virginia. We're on a heat advisory for this weekend & possibly a goodly portion of the next week. Heat index temps 105+. What fun!

Wait until August, it gets muggier and hotter than July.

You know it's too hot...

...when you have to hose down your head and face to keep from getting too hot by mid-morning, then start to feel lightheaded only an hours later... And realize your head and hair have COMPLETELY DRIED ALREADY  ...only thing that was giving me a modicum of relief was that the back of my T-shirt was still damp and plastered to my back.... But that could have been sweat.

When your dog fans himself with his paw (mine did :D )
When the leaves of your English Ivy, which in the spring turned TOWARDS the sun, start turning AWAY FROM the sun
When you touch the metal part of your seatbelt that clicks into the other part...and get burned
When you have to turn the bedroom fan on HIGH and remove all the blankets from the bed in order to sleep

LOL :D

You can put a skillet in the sun on the concrete patio and literally fry an egg. Grandson did that last weekend.

I sorely miss my live oak. Even in the shade it is too hot to sit on my patio after 11 am. No rain in weeks. No relief in sight. Highs have been between 97 and 99 degrees for over a week. It will get worse before it get better. Triple digit temperatures are predicted for the next 3 days - actual temperature not heat index.

Patio plants are dying and I AM MELTING!

When you have sweat drip from your eyelashes and have to press your lips together and blow out to spray the sweat off your lips so it doesn't drip into your mouth when you open it to speak.

for my area, we could do an it's too rainy one...

It's too rainy, when the dog (who doesn't like to get wet), will stay in all day without peeing, rather than set foot outdoors.

The Eastern U.S. has gotten too much rain and the rest of us are watching the grass turn brown.

You know it is too hot when sweat starts dripping from your hair and your shirt sticks to your back.

You know its too hot when you want to jump in the sprinklers just to cool off

You know its too hot when you go to pick up a pot and get a first degree burn because it is too hot.

You know it is too hot when you turn on the COLD water at 2 in the afternoon and it comes out steaming hot.

You know its too hot when in rush hour the cars linger under the bridge a little longer.

Good things to do on really hot days
--stroll an air conditioned mall
---see a matinee movie and it is usually cheaper too
---- go to the beach or the pool
---- Have a cooler handy with lots of ice and cold drinks available
---- Get up early and garden in the morning and in the evening and relax in the middle of the day, preferably at the mall.
----- re apply sun screen every 2 hours and use sun sleeves. Use a waterproof sun screen or it will melt and burn your eyes.

Yes, these days when it is still chilly in the morning and beautiful in the afternoon, I tend to do my computer and other indoor stuff in the AM and then go garden. In the summer, I will need to turn that around.

I don't get nearly as cold as you do, but it does get cold for me. On those days it takes a little longer to get out of bed.

When it's 11 degrees in the morning and 30 is the daily high point.
That's crappy.
BUT now I can do some gardening because it has been 70 degrees all last week and it will be this week. :D

A cold front is passing by. It was 63 degrees yesterday
You know it is the opposite of too hot when
Every body is wearing long sleeves and ski caps and masks except me ( I don't have one)
When it is comfortable inside a shade house at 11 a.m. not a drop of sweat in site
The most popular lunch or snack is cup of noodles or hot soup.
I have only one window open in the house and I am still freezing
I layer a shirt and another long pant under my sweats and wear socks to bed.
I am expecting it to start snowing any minute.

It is too hot when you are being bitten by gnats and mosquitos and turn on the AC in early March in NY.

I hate those mosquitoes. Especially on warm still nights. They like to buzz around my ear. Its almost as bad as when the termites and 747's swarm.
