Spring Mineral Hunting for the Kids--Help!

The kids want to hunt for minerals in the streams this spring--with buckets, pans, shovels, sieves, etc. How do I do this? I need a guide, and soon, because they want to go next weekend!
I also need a mineral ID guide (Abridged Version Written Quickly On Forums, please, lol
