I think if people post a question or introduction and it doesn't draw any response within a couple days or so, it is very discouraging and they are unlikely to ever come back. If they get a prompt and warm welcome, they may well become valued members of our community.
I try to do that every few days, but it would be great if more people were paying attention to it. People are always disappearing, so if we don't keep drawing in new ones, it will get pretty dead around here!
There's quite a few sitting waiting right this minute and I have to go to work!
