What I learned on Facebook

The one thing I have learned from Facebook is that there are a lot of dumb people in this world, just saying.

Very, VERY true. I can't believe all the junk people post and all the dumb chain letters, conspiracy theories, etc they post. And their very ignorant political and world views etc.

People post personal things on Facebook I would never post, some people post crazy stuff and when they get a reply they do not like they freak out; well how did you think people were going to reply! Yes when it comes to the subjects we do not talk about here they have a narrow view of things and look at complex issues with a simple view. If you agree with them then they think you are smart but if you do not then you are an idiot, and they will tell you so I think some people post on Facebook just to push their agenda of some kind. Often posts are made that are not even close to the truth and when you look up the facts you find they just passed on something and never bothered to find out if it was true.
On the good side you do get to see what friends and family are up to, you get lots of food recipes, and photos of cute animals.
I like the people who post here as there are no harsh words between us, everyone is kind here, people are modest and actually knows a lot about what they post, and everyone is very helpful.

I've never been on Facebook, never tweeted, twittered, blogged, etc. My wife has a Facebook account/profile/whatever it is called and she will call me to come see what one of her "Friends" have posted. Most of the time it is a waste of steps for me to go look at it. I don't care to see a photo of what my nephew had for breakfast or to know that Aunt Sally is constipated and has been for days. Way too much time on their hands to post such things in my opinion.

From my limited observation on such matters, I simply can't see how some folks feel at ease posting personal/intimate details of their lives on these social media sites. It's like they have no shame.

As for Tomf's statement that this site is more mature, friendly, etc. I think that is because it is basically geared to one common thread----gardening. I'm sure most members of this site are generally older and more mature than the users of Facebook, thus wiser in what gets posted.

There must be a very human desire to share burdens, stronger in some folks than others.

Combine that with a desire for commonality and community and it seems likely that those who find life burdensome, even overwhelming and frightening, are those who rise to the top in some parts of all media.

And then, there are the people who say the first thing that comes into their heads.

Ugh, and the self-satisfied Some-e-cards or whatever.

"When I say hello it means I hate you." ...thanks?

I just unfollow people's posts. It's the only way I can continue to hold them in any esteem in some cases.
