This sounds about right, don't you think?

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Ooh! Have not read that in AGES! Now where did I put that? I hope it's in my shelf or baskets of fave sci in the bedroom because otherwise, I'm going to have to rummage in the attic....

...hmm... Is that a short story or a novella? As I recall, I don't have many full length R.Heinlein. I was more into Isaac Asimov -- I have practically all of his Sci Fi stuff.

I'd settle for a man who actually reads the instructions first.

Now, if the insects are specialists, and have been around about 120 million years
and man has been around for about 200,000 who do you think is smarter?

A Jack of all trades or master of one.

Who do you think will win the survival of the species award?

My guess is the cockroach. It has been around for 300,000,000 years and has survived almost everything thrown at it.

I tossed a shoe at one and it did not survive.

Anyone care to recommend some Asimov or Heinlein to read? :) I like short stories and novellas but book length is fine, too! I retell short stories to my daughter for bedtime or long drives.

By the way, if you like Asimov, the Foundation Trilogy, an eight hour drama is available for free at archive.org.

These are 8 one hour episodes. This is NOT an audio book. It's a radio drama. I downloaded it to listen during the summer when we take long drives to vacation destinations. Old time radio dramas like Suspense and comedies like Baby Snooks make great listening on those long drives! :)

"Time Enough For Love" is part of the Lazarus Long saga. Oh a half dozen novels or so. Back when RH was still getting paid by the word.

Ah! I don't think I have all of them, but I remember that one so I must have it. I'm starting to remember the story, too. (I have some of my favorite books in the attic because I have to wait at least three to five years to forget the details so I can enjoy fresh again after reading two or three times) Maybe I will get the full set now.

I am SO getting the radio drama, webmaster. I used to love listening to those... Dr. Who... Mystery Theatre.... --never got the chance to listen to the Foundation series though- :D

Radio drama. Does anyone remember: Inner Sanctum, and I Love a Mystery?
