error msgs

seems there was a thread about software issues, etc.
can't find it.

one of those benefits to having thousands of sections / sub-fori I suppose

clicking on the msg of the 2nd pix produces the error in the 1st pix.
why do I suspect the msg is spam, and got deleted (YEAH!) but the error msg is really not too terribly "right"

and why does it insist on presenting stuff in reverse order?

how about the old fashion "Unread Msgs" link? went bye-bye?

I didn't start a thread about issues this time. There is no such thread. That's why you couldn't find it.

>>>error msgs

That's a spam post that someone reported and it was removed and now deleted. Good riddance, right?

As for posts without answers, it's still there. Just scroll up and click the link titled, "View unanswered posts" ;)

And there is "View new posts" for things that have replies, but are new since your last visit.

I am having trouble figuring out what things are highlighted orange and what aren't. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

Also I did get one PM since the update. Now I can't find any way to delete it. There doesn't seem to be a delete button any more. I don't want to save all the messages I get. Being pretty active here, I get a number of people PM'ing me just to say thanks for the reply. I appreciate the thanks, but I don't need to save them all.

On the message list page, there is a checkbox to the right of each message. If you click on the box, the message is checked=selected.
Scroll down to the bottom of the list to the pull down menu that says "mark/unmark selected" and there is an option for "delete all selected"

OK ..... you have to scroll way way way down to the bottom of 171 messages that are displayed on the page. And then delete doesn't show until you open the pull down menu.

It would be much handier to have a delete button at the top of the page. And it would be more helpful if the box at the bottom had Delete showing as the visible header and the rest invisible until you open the droop down. I never use any of the other, just the Delete.

I had the silly idea something like
"This message is no longer available"
could be more useful to novices than
"Thou Shalt Not Be Permitted To Read This Forum"

View unanswered posts

View unread posts
are three different concepts.

The way to delete messages from within the message itself is to look in the lower right hand corner of the message and click the button that looks like an x.

I think that button can be improved with a button that says, Delete.

Dillbert, you simply came upon a post that was removed moments before. It's not a message you will see often if ever again.

if a user has a thread/msg bookmarked, and the thread/msg is moved, does that generate the same error msg?

Ok, thanks for the feedback. You're right. I'll add something like that.

By the way, I just updated the Delete button so it's bigger (more visible) and so that it reads, Delete.

I post here Roger. Do you really think it kind to make any delete button easier to find and use?

I got bumped from the forum this afternoon; something that has never happened in the four years I've hung around here. I was just typing away and then everything disappeared with a General Error message: sql error, mysqli, 1040, "too many connections." and I couldn't get back in, even with closing the page down and coming back.

PS Just happened again, sql error, an error occurred while fetching this page. This time I was able to close the page and come back...

That was a server problem that was resolved. Took a number of phone calls to diagnose and fix but it's resolved. Anytime you have a problem logging in and want to know what's going on try checking our Helpful Gardener Facebook Page. I know it's been a rough couple of weeks but I believe we're out of the woods.

Thanks for the feedback, it helps keep this forum useful. I'm not perfect but I'm doing my best to help keep this a good community. Thank you. :)

We appreciate all you do, Roger. I was just letting you know, not being critical. I just hate it when I can't get my THG fix is all! :)

we certainly can be a grumpy whiny bunch, eh?

but it does show how much people care about / use this place - so don't even think about not being appreciated.
