Some of the assortment of yard tools that are needed to keep up the yard. I have to lube and tune up all the yard gear, I hooked up the 6' PTO mower to the tractor and did some mowing today, spring has sprung.

last fall I noticed the tiller drive belt(s) were cracked/worn/frayed/whatever.

so today I busted out all the tools and replaced the belts.
as I was just finishing it started to rain.

so much for my timing. . . .

I don't think of all the power tools that need work all winter, then come spring and it is a list of things to do. I don't know how to count them but I think I have 10 or more lawns, some small and some large, so it takes a bit of gear to mow them all. Like most of the people here I do like working in the yard, and most days I don't think of it as work.

When I had some experience working on the family farm & for farmers, I was offered winter work in the equipment sheds. That was the end of my farm work. (Altho', "officially" I was a farm worker during the years I worked for a rose greenhouse and I am still filling out "form F" for the IRS .)

I was desperate NOT to work on all that d**n machinery all winter. It was bad enuf that I seemed to be welded into a tractor or whatever for so many hours each day thru the growing season.

When the US went so strongly towards interstate trucking transport, lots of farm kids just "graduated" to driving an 18-wheeler. That was another career I was desperate not to have.

Tis the season! My riding mower is also ready to go - oil change, filter, blades sharpened, etc. Grass is just starting to green up so I'm a little ahead of the curve.

I spent a few weekends this winter overhauling a 1981 Troy-Bilt Horse Tiller I bought last year. New oil seals, gaskets and o-rings. Basically had to completely tear it apart. I plan on working some ground this weekend!

Where is DD when we need him? He works on this stuff for a living. I am thinking of taking a class in small engine repair, I work on my stuff but I think I could know more about what I am doing.

We have an acre lot. Between garden, buildings, walks, driveways and natural areas I have reduced mowing to a job that takes 30 minutes with a walking mower. As my trees grow each year, I increase the natural area. I like the shrinking lawn concept.
