I really should include genre with my posts. The 1st band I posted was a Christian metalcore band formed in Ohio in 2005.
What I'm listening to now is a punk/alt rock back called Sharks that formed in Leamington Spa, England in 2007. This is the only full length demo they have posted from their upcoming album No Gods. The track is Arcane Effigies and the new album will be coming out March 20th.

Right now I am listening to Eve of destruction(by p.f.sloan) then Big yellow taxi as well as Green libya(by lil'em) and Gaddafi an African Hero(by mzone and azease jackson).

But I also like to listen to Tchaikovsky, Bethoven, Mozart, Cat stevens, Jethro Tull, Nigel Kennedy, Franz liszt, Richard Wagner, Najwa Karam and Wayne Collins and Jenny Townsend to name a few of my favourite artist's.

Speaking of metal, the thing that has turned me off about some of it are the posers involved in that music. You know what I'm talking about, those heavy metal drag queens with the leather and whatnot. When Metallica came out they were refreshing because it was about the music, not their doc martins. I lived in the lower haight in San Francisco in the eighties and you couldn't toss a bag of speed five feet without hitting one of these conformist leather clones. I know I sound like a curmudgeon but I'm more like the guys in that movie Hi-Fi, that hung out in record stores for too long.

The Horrors are cool, I enjoy listening to them when I work. Florence and the Machine have a cool new album called Ceremonial that's not getting much airplay but it doesn't have a BIG SONG on it like Dog Days Are Over, which is fine because that song was repetitive and overplayed, as much fun as a carful of kids chanting are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? They have threads about that at a music forum I joined. A lot of the celebs are just making music to sell and don't care how it sounds. Thats where I'm learning different genres and how to setup music reviews. =)

I've heard some Metallica tracks and a ton of Pink Floyd and there really kewl. I've heard Florence and the Machine too. When I listen to bands on my desktop or my pad I really like the awesome videos and stuff. What's really important is what I put on my mp3 player because it doesn't have videos. If I put something on that it's because I like the music. And there are some bands that have awesome videos and I won't watch them because I don't like the music. Btw, Green Carnation was way kewl. Thanks for the heads up!

@ Lorax. I don't really get the description but that Mago de Oz track really owns! I like when bands use other instruments like violins.

Korpiklaani is a folk metal band from Lahti Finland that formed in 2003. They use a violin and an accordian in the track Vodka on there 2009 album Karkelo. this song totally owns!

The discussion of metal made me think of an epic track from Cradle of Filths 2004 album Nymphetamine. There from Suffolk, England. The track Nymphetamine is about the hazards of being in-love and the singer is Liv Kristine from the band Leaves Eyes. It's like a metal opera and it's one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen! The music is way kewl too.

Yeah, Steeleye Span is a little obscure, I'll admit it. But what I really like about Mago (who, btw, should always be experienced either live or in full album format because they write metal operas) is that they're keeping the Iberian celtic traditions alive in their music while also being suitably heavy. Plus who doesn't love a metal band with a flute and violin? I went to see them last year when they came through Ecuador and it was freaking amazing.

Just for a bit of a change-up, today's wakey-wakey music is Imelda May, who's sort of Scottish high-energy rockabilly....ish.... Man, I suck at descriptors sometimes. Or maybe I'm just listening to hard to classify stuff at the moment.

Now I'm listening to a band from London England, Placebo. this is Battle For the Sun from there last album. They posted on FB and said they are working on a new album for 2012. I can't wait for that! This track is alternative rock or metal and they use a violin in it.

Mago are actually from Spain, though. They're just huge in Latin America. I'll try to dig up some of the Ecuadorian rock bands - we're huge metalheads down here, and the guy who runs the muffler shop up the block from me is the drummer for a rather excellent band. I'll see if he's got anything on teh YouTubes.

Just to weird everybody out, I'm now listening to Ym:Stammen, from Norway, who have semimodernized the traditional Viking war songs and set them to rather awesome rock melodies.

I'm listening to the last album In This Moment made in 2010, A Star-Crossed Wasteland. There a metalcore band from north Hollywood that formed in 2005 and Maria Brink is my favorite metal singer. The band said they were working on a new album for 2012 but Jeff and Blake left the band so dunno how the new album will sound. But hey they still have Chris and his guitar solos are just totally epic!

A photo of the screens from the music software I am using in a music video I am working on. Computer based instruments are called Virtual instruments or VI's for short. The M5-3 VI program runs in side the studio program, the drums you see are another VI program just for drums and also run inside the studio program as an add on. The video is running in the music studio program also. The video was edited in Final Cut Pro and After Effects, then brought into the studio program to add the music to it.

tomf what music software are you using? To record my music I use Acid Music Studio.

I have a few of them but the one I like the most is Digital Performer 7, it is the most like a real studio and I can work fast in it. I use a Mac Pro tower with 8 CPU cores. I used Acid before and even made my own Acid loops. My music is produced from me playing it on an instrument; guitars, bass, piano, keyboards, harmonica and vocals. I have drum pads I can play by hand but for the most part I use drum rhythms that were recorded in a studio and put in MIDI form. I cut and paste them then adjust them to my liking; every thing else I play.

I get the pay for Pandora and use the shuffle to go between music stations depending upon what my moods are. I have a metal station, a alternative station, my own with my favorite bands, a classic rock, a blues, a jazz and a classical station. Often a new band or song that I never heard before comes up and I find a new group I like.

I've been a big fan of electronic music for quite some time. Did a long tour of industrial back, say, 15 years ago when I was in my mid 20's. Artists at the time included Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, NItzer Ebb, Front 242, Conquer your House, My Life With the Thrll Kill Kult, etc etc. Never really got over the electronic part of music that I like and that kinda evolved into House, Trance and Dance music. Some of my all time favortie DJ's include Armin Van Buuren, Benny Benassi, Scumfrog, Paul Oakenfold, etc... Today, in addition to the genre's listed above, I've found myself fascinated by some dubstep tracks...and a lot of my current listening includes artists like Skrillex, Deadmau5 and the like...

I used to be in bands and had a lot of fun playing out, some wild times Jay. I do not have the wish or time for it now but I love to play and write music. I some times jam with people but most of the time I do all the parts my self, it is much harder than most people know, one has to wear a lot of hats so to say.
On the way to work tonight Complete Control Radio was on; it is a bunch of punk bands, a number of them I never heard before. I always like to hear some thing new.

It's a wicked cover of Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by a band called Pinn Panele. Never would have thought you would be able to cover a song like that...

And just in case you are wondering how the heck they do all of that, some research a while back revealed this:

"When we first saw the live cover of Skrillex Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites by the band Pinn Panelle, we had to know how a band is able to play live dubstep on real instruments. We emailed the band and they spilled the beans on how to process the hell out of an instrument in a live environment.

First up is the bassist, [Nathan Navarro]. He wears a Source Audio Hot Hand on his right thumb. This little box is a two-axis accelerometer that communicates with his pedal board using RF frequencies. With the Hot Hand, he has control over two parameters on Hot Hand Pedals. The envelope effect is awesome, but it's worth noting that [Nathan] is sponsored by Source Audio. we're thinking it would be relatively easy to cram a Wii MotionPlus and microcontroller into a wristband. Tied to a computer and MIDI interface, the homebrew solution would do the same thing.

[Derek Song] is the guitarist and he’s used multieffects for most of his musical life He has a small Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad mounted to the front of his guitar that controls just about everything on his pedal board. The Bluetooth controller sends commands to [Derek]‘s computer that outputs MIDI CC messages to his pedal board.

In a studio, Pinn Panelle’s cover would be impressive. The fact that it's being played live opens up a number of doors as to what a band can do in real-time. Blink 182 is the kind of punk I like, I like Green day, Less Than Jake and a bunch of others. On Sat night one station plays a bunch of punk bands, many of them I never heard of before. Some got that british kind of Ahi O lets go kind of thing.
Most punk guitar players let the strings ring and you do not get palm mutes as in HM or rock.
