I enjoy recommending music to people. Todays recommendations are two albums from Steve Martin, yes that Steve Martin. He's a helluva bajo plucker.

Music preferences vary quite a bit so you may not like some of the stuff I like; that is fine with me.
My tastes range quite a bit and I am open to at least listen to some thing new. I may find it not be my taste but until I hear it I will never know.
I like rock mostly; classic rock, grunge, post-grunge, punk, metal, nu-metal, industrial, and more. I love the blues and I also like jazz and big band, bebop, classical music, some pop and some country. I am not much into trance, hip hop or rap although some rock and rap mixed together is fine with me. I have even been going to a gospel concert put on with the Portland Symphony for a few years in a row.
I also play guitar, bass, piano, synthesizer, harmonica and sing.

Kenny, my tastes are varied as well. Steve Martin and the CRs are great. Steve has gotten better and better over the years.
We used to call the music you are talking about like The Band, progressive country. It was a big part of the music scene in the 60s and 70s.
Guys and groups like The Band Waylon, Willie, Jerry Jeff, Marshall Tucker,Crystal Gayle and Emmilou kind of ruled the genre back then.
I pretty much quit buying music after about 1980. In the 90s, groups and singers like the Subdudes, Deer Tick, Lyle , came on the scene and I started buying again.
Of course, The Dirt band was huge in the formation of progressive country. You may want to watch Paint Your Wagon. It was the Dirt Band's springboard and in addition, you'll get to see Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood sing.
There are way too many groups tom list but those are a few of my favorites.
I've seen all that I mentioned except Steve Martin live. In the 70's, I played my harmonica with Jimmy Buffett and Alabama in little dives before anybody heard of them. We went to a Jackson Brown concert right after his wife died. A guy named Maurice Williams [and the Zodiacs] wrote the song Stay [just a little bit longer] Jackson brown recorded it. After the concert we went to a dive bar where Maurice Williams was playing. About 30 minutes after we got there, low and behold Jackson Brown walked in. This was a little nothing hole in the wall honky tonk. He sang Stay and a few other songs with M and the Zodiacs and left. Definitely a night I wont forget.
I still play in marina bars when the bands invite me to sit in.

I like a lot of different genres too. and mostly I like alternative rock, grunge, punk and post punk, thrash metal, metal, black metal, hardstyle, some trance, glitch, scream, and some crunk.
I'm all over Hollywood Undead, Senses Fail, Cage The Elephant, 5 Finger Death Punch, Rev Theory, and In This Moment right now! and theres a ton of other bands that totally own! and I really like The Horrors new album Skying! Thats neo-psychedelia and shoegaze.
My favorite hardstyle bands are Psyko Punkz and Wasted Penguinz!

"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees.
I got bills to pay,
I got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know I can't slow down,
I can't hold back,
Though you know, I wish I could.
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good".

I said yeah yeah
No no no no no no
Now listen to me
My wife ran off with the garbage man
My wife ran off with the garbage man
Now I don't miss that woman
But somebody gotta empty my can
Now let me tell you what happened
I came home the other night
Caught the two of you alone
And you told me was a nudist
Who came in to use the phone
Well I come from Alabama baby
And I got this banjo on my knee
Now you know I love to pick the banjo
Why does the whole wide world gotta pick on me?
Listen to this honey
I'm gon' to take you over to my place
I'm gonna to stomp on your head
I'm gon' kill you so bad
You gonna wish you was dead
I'm gonna mess with you baby
Now let me tell you what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna take you to a secret place
Where I got a vat full of dippity doo
Sixteen little red noses and a horse that sweats
Gonna dip you in that dippity doo
Tie a rubber band around my fanny
And run around you screamin' like I'm an airplane
And make me take off
Cause I love you baby oh
Love you pretty Momma
Yeah I love yeah yeah yeah
No no no no no
Yeah
No no no no no no

Sorrow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR_P-vpNOuY
Father can you hear me?
How have I let you down?
I curse the day that I was born
and all the sorrow in this world
Let me take you to the herding ground
where all good men are trampled down
Just to settle a bet that could not be won
between a prideful father and his son
Will you guide me now for I can't see a reason
for the suffering and this long misery
What if every living soul could be upright and strong?
Well then I do imagine
There will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more
When all soldiers lay their weapons down
or when all kings and all queens relinquish their crowns
Or when the only true messiah rescues us
from ourselves it's easy to imagine
There will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more
There will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more

I don't know who the other band is but I have heard Bad Religion. I like the second version too but the acoustic one was really cool. This is another one of my favorite bands Attack! Attack!. It's from their new album last summer, The Latest Fashion!

Trade myself in before I get put down again
I pray to God that it won't be long until this cycle ends
I'm on my knees from this disease
There must be easier ways to please
Trade myself in before I get put down again
I can't seem to find my way back home
This is the hardest thing that I have ever done, before
we're not the enemy, we are the same as you
we're not the enemy, the hardest thing to do is let go
Funk myself up before I get put down again
I swear to God that it won't be long until this cycle ends
I'm on my knees from this disease

. Jaydenz I like the those bands, I like hard rocka little more than new alt but like them both.
I just got a new big monitor yesterday for my studio, it is the bigest one next to the computer. The close up photos show my music studio program with some VIs open and a movie window open. You can see one of the VIs is a drum set. I was putting music to a video. I use the Apple displays for critical color adjustments.
The photo from a little back in the room shows Zbrush open; it is a 3d modeling program for shaping 3d models. Some of my guitars are in the photo as well. Yes I am a music freak.

oh wow! Thats a ton of really kewl music gear! I only have an electric guitar and a keyboard. I'm learning how to read music but thats not easy but I can play some cool stuff on my keyboard!
Ive been studying music at a music forum and I'm learning what all the genres are. Btw, have you heard The Blackouts new album Hope? It totally rocks!
I may try to get another monitor for my PC. Its a new Intel 3.06 Ghz PC that I got last Christmas but I don't know how to hook up another monitor yet but maybe I could get one for my birthday.

Most video cards have out puts for 2 monitors so you need to see what kind of out put you video card has. Most will out put HDMI this is the standard digital video link. Some will also out put via a mini digital video connector, if your monitor does not have that for an input you can get an adapter cable. After 2 monitors you will need to look into a second video card, I am running 2 fast video cards as I do video and 3d animation. After you get them hooked up go into the monitor set up utility and tell it how the monitors are to be set up, you can make them act like one big monitor by putting them in a side by side configuration. It is very easy to do.
punk rock is the best.. I love everything from the sex pistols to bad religion. Rancid and Nofx are probably my favorite bands! Nice to see some gardeners who like punk!tomf wrote:Music preferences vary quite a bit so you may not like some of the stuff I like; that is fine with me.

LOVE THAT SONG!
Is anyone else bummed that pennywise IS going to release a new album with their new lead singer. Originally they said they only were going to finish touring with him but now they are going to put out a new record. To me the band wont be the same without Jim..... they should at least give the band a different name, Pennywise is only Pennywise with Jim singing. But I do enjoy Jims new band The Black Pacific.... I just call them Pennywise#2 lol

Now look what you did. I didn't get to read the whole the thread the other day. I just went through it for about and hour and a half watching al the clips and of course searching through the other stuff that came up. I was about to start some seeds but...........
Yes the only thing I love more than gardening is music.
I love the punk references, that is what I grew up with. Skinheads and razor blades in the pit. Ahh the good 'ol day's.
Here is one of my all time fav bands, Funny while searching through You Tube I came across that Flipper vid Webbie posted. Sorry no real vid, these guys are the real thing and cheap, no fancy cameras here. LOL First real show I saw, we hung out with them afterwords. I was in a punk band at the time, we opened up for them.

I remember getting intimidated and busted at age 13 by the police.
I remember my friend Tate Bryan getting shot in the back in Tampa, FL for his first-offense burglary.
I remember the police firing at the crowds and killing children cause they were the wrong color.
I remember the narcs from my high school trying to set me up for a big fall.
I remember the police bringing dogs into our school and sniffing away my rights.
The police is the klan is the mafia and they're out for me, and soon they're going to be out to get you, so you better get going if you know it's good for you and take your stand.
I remember when I first went to school
They said, Don't be a joker, don't be a fool
Pledge your allegiance to the red, white and blue
Don't expect your country to do nothin' for you
They said your forefathers loved you
but I only had one
And I watched him die in the heat of the sun
Suckin' up the bullets of a policeman's gun
There was nothin' I could do but stay away
In the U.S.A. you gotta take your chances
If you plan on stayin' free
They call this the land of the living
But they're trying to make a dead man out of me
I remember when I first hit the road
I was runnin' from the lenders of the money I owed
Came to Austin, heard a knock at my door
Crossed another border and I'm runnin' some more
They say they're gonna get me but it ain't happened yet
Burnin' my fingers on my last cigarette
It's time to remember time to forget
Nothin' I could do but get away
I remember all the stories I heard
How a man's supposed to be 'bout as free as a bird
My brother's in prison, my father's dead
Me, I'm tired of living with a price on my head
I wonder if there's a place to be
In the whole wide country for a fella like me
Name's in the paper, face on T.V.
Nothin' I can do but get away

I love all music. The more unpopular the more I love it. It has to have heart and soul and actually say something. Not this garbage they are pumping out today. Though some new music is great don't get me wrong.
Anyone want to talk punk bands please PM me, though none of that wanna be stuff like Green Day, I'm talking HARD CORE PUNK. I could rattle off bands for day's, I did love the foreign punk as well, even if it was in a different language. You couldn't understand them anyways even if they were talking in English.
I couldn't leave without showing what I did to my back than hippy favorite jean jacket.

One night a week the local alternate station plays punk, much of the punk they play is raw and from many bands I had never heard before. I do not like all the bands but many of the bands I do like. I think a ton of the British punk bands all say oui quite a bit, just a little joke there. Yes Green Day is popular and not so raw but I like them, as do tons of people.
The alternate station also plays a remix night; this is of no interest to me. Some of the re-mixers know nothing about tonality. The alt station had been playing club music or trance and dub step but that is not my thing either. With my studio I can remix and do DJ, trance music with easy; I have done some for the fun of it. I play real instruments and it took a lot of work to do so; this is what I like and respect.
I like much of the new alternate, although I find much of it kind of popish. I prefer bands like Breaking Bingaman, Dragonforce and Avenged 7 fold and nu-metal, not so much the metal bands that scream and never sing. I may even tune to some jazz or classical music at times.
I feel radio in Portland is for the dogs so I use net streaming when not in my car. I switch between my presets depending upon the mood I am in. The cool thing is when you click on “likeâ€
