Stephen (my son, Austin's dad) talked to the surgeon today:
He has never seen such a severe tear, self close, he normally has to repair much smaller tears. But, Austin's hemoglobin count is now rising, not falling, nor holding steady.
He is walking, eating, and the swelling is going down. He is almost off of the morphine. So, tomorrow morning he will be released to come home. He will be under restrictions for 6 weeks, if all goes well, after that it will just be, be cautious about football, contact sports, bike riding, things that could be a major trauma to his innards. But, the surgeon is impressed.
I say it is being a country boy, riding his bike, unloading feed, helping with chores, that had his body in good health, and lots of healing prayers going up that has made his recovery possible in this short time. If he had been a couch potato and not active, then his body would have been more difficult to get healed.
He is being a bit snippy today with folks, I think it is the morphine withdrawal, but he could also be getting just a bit spoiled, he has cartoons on and is playing video games, and getting annoyed if the nurses interrupt him! Hey, that too is a good sign, when he was too ill to care, that was not a good sign.
So, tomorrow, everyone will be home again! Yeah! These 3 are next door and see the animals and toys and stuff daily, but still you can tell they are homesick, for their parents and brother, and just basic routine. I have tried to keep it close to normal with school and church, and sleepovers etc. But it just isn't the same.
Thanks for all the prayers! And for caring about a kid you don't even know!

Such good news for all of you. *whew* Yes, when patients begin to become irritable, they're usually getting better.
You'll all have a nice Sunday before--ah--trying to get back into some semblance of a school routine on Monday.
Somehow I doubt that any of his "special assignments" will be to watch cartoons or play video games!
Glad to read about such a positive situation after such a scary accident. :fingers crossed: for everything to continue well!

Austin and his parents are in the car, enroute home!
So, the ordeal is winding down, hopefully.
He is frustrated by parents overprotectiveness, they are assisting him, everytime he moves! But, they just want to be sure, that they don't lose him. Doctors gave him a 10 pound limit, his dad said nope no lifting for at least another week...
They should be home, roughly at about 3pm, central daylight time.
Thanks everyone, for holding my hand through all this.
I am glad they are enroute, the baby deer is missing his family, and now escaping constantly, so we are on shifts to keep him company!
I don't want to explain any missing animals, you know?

Thanks for all the prayers.
He is home, he is eating, sleeping and doing what he should.
But, he is feeling better, off of almost all meds.
The problem now is: He is feeling good enough to want to run and play, and maybe even get back on his bike.
His parents are not letting him! But, it is challenging to hold him down!
