There will be several more games (with rules) as I have time. The spousal unit is feeling well enough to fly in the face of doctor's orders, so I have some free time.

Game #1: MONDAY MOANIN' This is taken from a former columnist's "Out of My Mind on Monday Moanin'" by Bob Talbert.
Rules: 1. Every Monday in this thread you get to moan about something. No politics, flaming, or nastiness.
2. Whining is allowed in this category.
3. If you have several moans you may only moan about one and save the rest for another Monday, so other people can take turns. It can be about aches and pains (only one at at time), garden-related, bad drivers, the pets, the kids--you get the idea, but only one at a time.
4. If you feel the need to expound on the one moan, please keep succinct and try not to ramble (like yours truly).
5. You may only post a moan as long as it's Monday in your time zone. You don't have to post every Monday (isn't that nice?).

So, my Monday Moan is:

I had nothing but tradespeople around the house this year. It was expensive, I ended up re-doing some of their work myself, other work still isn't right months later, and I'm out a lot of $$!
That is all.

Oooh, I'd better do this quickly if it has to be on Monday.... I have a problem that I could only have *imagined* would be a problem this time last year....

A long-time client (on and off for five years, and steadily from Feb 08 thru July 09) hired me late July 09 as a "part-time" employee. Office manager and I had envisioned 60 to 75% FTE; fine with me!

(I have some chronic pain stuff that long-time forum members know about, and 25 to 30 hours, plus a commute on public transit of approx. 1+ hour each way three or so times a week, is truly the limit I can sustain on an ongoing basis.)

*That* office manager left suddenly, though, in early October, and the new office mgr isn't as cognizant of my situation, PLUS is catching fireballs with both hands due to the abrupt transition. So...

Said former client/current employer is now having me work 35 to 40 hours a week, commute 4 to 5 days a week. Well, yes, I can definitely use the $$ (who can't???), but...I was sick on Thanksgiving, sick on Christmas, Christmas Saturday OK but had to be at in-laws' homeS yes plural--mother-in-law's house to prune runaway plants and then sister-in-law for obligatory family "do", Christmas Sunday had a migraine. Not a wonderful health pattern...

Naturally, I was well enough today to go to work.

Oh, yeah: no benefits, no nothin' in that department, either. At least the paychecks don't bounce!

Does all of this count as a Moan, or is it more like--ah--kvetching , Wing?

wing.... nice how you posted the rules of Monday Moaning at 5 min before midnight Monday night, so no one would have a chance to play until next Monday!

Since you cheated, I will too, here's my belated Monday Moan... great holidays, off all last week, had nice times with friends and family, but came down sick Sunday, just in time to go back to work. If I hadn't just been off all week, I would have called in sick, but having just missed a week, I CAN"T miss any more, so I'm struggling in to work sick...

I'll follow RG with a belated 'moan': My torn rotator cuff really hurts something awful! Oh! Oh! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I have to cry foul on posting this a 11:55 Monday as well. . We should be allowed a Tuesday tattle, Wednesday whine, Thursday tortuous complaint, Friday cry-day, Saturday sob and Sunday sigh.

Can't wait till next Monday.

Let's see: Monday moans...

Nope, none! Aside from sleeping in (bad me!) I managed to do all my chores and check my email and make lunch and take a shower. So I'm good for now. Maybe next week!!

I've been without a car for the last 4 days, I could moan and groan for hours.... Being stuck at home with no way of leaving will drive you nuts.

I've got the same moan goin' as I had last Monday, only it's louder now, 'cause the pain is even worse.

I'm allergic to pain!

Was waiting for Monday to do the moanin Monday .. or at least I thought. Back to work , new year and no time off with a paid holiday for 5 months

I have an ex-Christmas tree sitting out on my balcony that I found for free and welcomed to my home but now that the season is over it has fallen to me to get rid of it.

Depending on which municipality/county you live in, the solid-waste service may remove the tree until mid-January for no additional fee. Many Christmas trees in the Bay Area become mulch; I'm pretty sure the ones in El Cerrito do.

Having to do all the things the spousal unit usually does whilst they recover from "outpatient" surgery. Too many stairs! (This sounds like a tweet--but that's another moan...) I'm pooped!

I'm with Wing on this one. Wife busted up her knee after being bucked off a horse and I have to walk the 4 dogs, do all the cooking and cleaning, take care of the 8-year old, and still be cheerful and supportive. Thank the gods I'm super-human.

Sink clogged and had to call a professional in. Do I ned to say more?

Terrible day at work today I think my whole crew forgot everything they ever knew over the week-end

I just had two teeth pulled today,rookie dentist-took over a half an hour to try to numb it.then he did it right with a block they call it,where they actually numb the whole nerve for that side, finally I cant feel it.another half hour to remove two teeth.Eating eggs,cottage cheese,soft au gratin taters.Well there is my monday MOANIN for real

Every time I think I have ALL the garbage collected from every wastebasket in the house, I sit down to discover the one I forgot. Or it's something for the recycle bin. Ugh!

More musings on another thread but:

After spending more than 8 hours at the NAIAS (Detroit Auto Show), I'm disappointed that in all these years of declining ICE sales, there wasn't more emphasis on alternative-powered mainstream vehicle. Sure there were some novelty ones (and noted absences of previous vendors), but even for a couple looking for an about-town car to go to the grocery store, movies, errands; there were precious few real-time-available options. Most were experimental or teasers. Or the real insult--dangle a vehicle here that is only available overseas. With no concrete date/year to bring it to the USA market. Thanks a lot. Even finding a micro-car with an ICE engine that gets above 40mpg was needle-in-the-haystack stuff. Nissan wasn't even present, having yanked their only model, the Leaf, from the "Electric Avenue" exhibit by the time the show opened to the public. WAKE UP AMERICA! Forget trying to hybridize your Urban Assault Vehicles and get what you truly need, not what makes you feel more powerful. (Either gender--bullies cross all lines.)

Reading between all those lines: Unfortunately, in my town, being kinder to the environment still needs to be "marketed" and that more strongly, before we'll start doing the right things. Ugh.

Yes! I share this moan, and it's a biggie! Where the heck are those vehicles? Our car builders have had plenty of time to create several models, beautiful both inside and out; yet, nary a one is in sight. Oh, oh, oh, unless we go overseas to get 'em. Now, I don't want a busting big truck/car/van with fat wheels -- all I want is a nice tidy car along these lines to tool about in, and take on a road trip across state lines. Well, I ask you; where are those cars? And I'll answer the question: they are no where to be found except in our dreams and the dreams of our wonderful back yard inventors who are going to gen up something to beat the heck out of those malingerers in Detroit. Sure as heck, they are.

Ah, here I was reading the Helpful Gardener's hoo-ha section, with nothing to contribute since I had excluded two classifications of moans - health notwithstanding - that a) wouldn't get me in trouble with relatives who might read what I had to say about them, and of course they would; or b) crab about our politics which is in such a bad state that a mere "moan" couldn't encompass all that I have to say. So, I had little to moan about, but then I ran across the alternative powered mainstream vehicle moan which really lit my fire (as in combustion chambers). Because therein is the real take-off. I want to moan that we haven't any good wide-spread environmental friendly programs. But this would take me a month of Monday Moanings. Enough to say that we still have no decent alternatives from Detroit (underscore) that would help us all contribute to the health of our environment whilst simultaneously disentangle ourselves from Oily Politics. Whew!

Seeing as you're in Cinci, I suppose any friendly fire is welcome. Feel free to moan or whine (somewhat briefly--no dissertations, please) every Monday from now until Spring Thaw!
