That's brilliant.

Here's a link, the one above didn't load for me.

Where about in Washington do you live? We live out side of Sandy in Eagle Creek Oregon.

I'm not sure what is new/different about this one. I've seen loggers use the same type of machine to cut off the branches before they fell the tree.

There are a number of them made from what I see, how well the work I can not say. The loggers I have seen cut the trees down with a big tree cutting machine then pick them up with a crane machine and then use another one to cut the branches, cut them into 30 foot logs and stack them. I just would like something for my yard. Oh the wife said that unit would cost too much so I do not think I will have one, I would rent one if there was a place to.

So, what exactly is the purpose of this saw other than to cut small branches off the main trunk of a growing tree. Why is there a need for that unless you are looking for a bunch of bald trunks up to about 30 ft. or so with a small canopy.

I can understand it in a tree farming business or when cutting timber for sale to cut down on trim time once the tree is on the ground. Other than that, it looks like an expensive toy.

Many trees have dead branch low on the trunk, they are fire hazards and frankly look ugly. I would not trim the trees way up, but by having them up some opens the woods or light, reduces fire hazards and improves the view as well. Fire does not climb trees if it does not have something to climb, it stays on the ground.
