I am going for a hike today to explore my yard and find some places to make roads. One of my neighbor has a 6 way bulldozer and wants to put some roads down to the creek, and around the lower part of my and another neighbor's land. There are four properties on our road and we got together and talked about making a road, trail system linking them. The trail system should give us miles of trails to ride horses, hike, or as I plan to get a side by side ATV; ride. We also will link the roads to the roads in the forests near us so that will give us many more miles of trails. My next door neighbor has an earth dam on the creek that we could put a road over to get to the other side of the creek with out having to drive through it. I have been wanting to do a clean up and restoration of my share of the creek, I have about 1200' or 1300' of creek, so getting a tractor there will be a big help. Once I have access to the lower part of our land I may even make trails that go to the edge of our yard with my tractor. We are going to get together soon and start planning where we will make the roads, I am very excited about doing this.
If you do not hear from me for some time; send a rescue party!

Can't blame you for being excited, I'd be excited too if I had neighbors that would be willing to share in a project like that. Sounds like you have a very large piece of property to have that much creek running through it. I keep saying one of these days I'd like to own something like that, but I had better get to looking soon as 61 approaches this fall.
Is that a creek that is large enough for public use such as canoeing, tubing, etc. because if it is, I bet there is a lot of trash people discard without giving a damn where it goes or what it does to the environment. We have that problem here in La. where folks can tube along small rivers and creeks and it just sickens me to see it.
Good luck with your project and post pics of the progress if you can. Lucky duck!!

No it is a small creek, you can sit in it but not swim or raft, at least in the summer. It is also so far from where any people go that I do not think any one ever walks there. Maybe a hunter has come on to my land?
People who make a mess of places like that make me sick also! Or toss trash out onto the road side, dump garbage in the woods, some people have no respect!

I went and explored one area I think a road will go on, I took a camera with me. The photos look more like a jungle than any thing but it gives me an idea of what I have to work with. I looked for places that were not to steep, or had big trees that would have to be cut down.
The ferns are big many are up to my chest.
This area is above where the roads will go.

This is a road I want to conect to.

This tree fell over where I want to go, it is 150' long and a few feet thick at the trunk. I limbed it the other day, and I will cut it into sections and cable it out of whaer it is.

This will be the start of one of the roads to the creek.

Someone had lunch here.

This is another area I am looking at putting a road down to the creek area.
It will start here and go down a road we started a year ago. I did not walk and take photos of the lower part of the road that is there yet.
