Re: Explosion in West, Texas

Wow... so sorry. I had not heard about this yet, so looked it up. Sounds like a death and injury toll even greater than the Boston terrorist attack, but this was "industrial accident," caused by ammonium nitrate. Ammonium nitrate is fertilizer, but it is also highly explosive, used in car bombs and the Oklahoma bombing.

Another reason just to use compost in your garden?

Will keep all those people in my thoughts and prayers. Has to be even more devastating in a small town, where everyone knows everyone and everyone in town will have some connection to all those dead and injured people. Very sad.

I saw the video. The explosion was huge. Prayers to the victims and their families. I'm ready for this week to be over already.

Terrible. I can only hope that the people who died in the explosion did so instantly; I just can't deal with the thought of them lingering. :(

Some of the dead were volunteer fire-fighters who had been urging workers to evacuate, since a fire had been reported. Fire + ammonium nitrate = very bad news. Evidently, some people were able to escape, but not everyone.

The area for a four-block radius is destroyed; roofs lifted off of buildings from the blast force.

Again, neighbors began rescuing immediately: the inhabitants of a nursing home were dug out of collapsed drywall by neighbors. Thank the Powers That Be for other people.

:( Thoughts and prayers. That kind of catrastrophy in such a small town often results in a bonding of the commnity members. Those firefighters are true heros. Truly tragic.

This is very sad indeed.
I am on the safety team where I work; often accidents happen because people did not follow the procedures, in some companies the management takes short cuts with safety.
